Honorary Appointments

Colonel Of The Regiment

Honorary Colonel Elizabeth Bainbridge was appointed into her role by the Minister of National Defence.  Her family has a long history with the Armoured Corps.  Both her Father and her son served with Primary Reserve Armoured  Regiments, while she served with the Royal Canadian Dragoons (a Regular Force Armoured Regiment).    She believes the reserves are great response to 'what did you do this weekend?'  As a former soldier, she's jumped out of a helicopter and stood on the deck of a nuclear submarine at open water.   Who knows what cool and exciting experiences you could have?

Honorary Lieutenant Colonel of The Regiment

Honorary Lieutenant Colonel Paul Bradford was appointed into his role by the Minister of National Defence during 2023.  In his civilian role he is know as Dr. Bradford, Head of Trauma at Windsor General.  As a past Commanding Offficer of a Field Ambulance Unit, Paul is an example of someone who has combined a challenging career with Primary Reserve Service.

Where It Began

The Regiment first stood up on 15 Dec 1936, while the Canadian Armoured Corps was established 13 Aug 1940.  The reorganization of 1936 created a new tank school, and comprised 6 tank battalions.  The Regiment was originally named The Essex Regiment (Tank) and had to be created from scratch.  Some Officers  and some Non Commissioned Officers were assigned from The Essex Scottish [(Infantry) now named The Essex & Kent Scottish) to create what is now called The Windsor Regiment (RCAC).  A shared heritage and a share motto:  Semper Paratus!  (Always Prepared/Ready)
